  • DIRECTIONS FOR FRONT CARRY POSITION WITH INFANT INSERT
For babies 7-12 lb 9 (3.2 - 5.5 kg) or under 4 months old, the Ergobaby Infant Insert must be used to provide additional head and neck support and ensure infant are correctly positioned.

    1. Buckle the waist strap around your waist with the carrier hanging in front of you.

    2. If using insert, place your baby in the Infant Insert, using Infant Insert instructions.

    3. Lift your child up close to your body making sure to support your baby's head and back. Position the Infant Insert with your baby's knees at your belly with the base of the Infant Insert just above the waist belt of the baby carrier.

    4. While holding your baby in the Infant Insert with your right hand, place the left shoulder strap over your left shoulder. With your hand on the outside of the carrier, hold your baby with your left hand, and place the right shoulder strap over your right shoulder.

    5. Reach over your head with both hands, buckle the chest strap, and adjust the chest strap to ensure the shoulder straps are securely positioned on both shoulders. After buckling the chest strap, tighten the chest strap until it is comfortable for you and your baby.

    6. To ensure your baby is correctly positioned within the Infant Insert and carrier, you first need to tighten the shoulder straps slightly: Support your baby with one hand and tighten the shoulder strap slightly with the other hand by pulling the webbing towards your baby. Switch hands and slightly tighten the other shoulder strap. Second, you should ensure that your baby is not slouched in the Infant Insert: Reach inside the Infant Insert with both hands on the buttocks and lower back of your baby, lift your baby's bottom slightly and tilt your baby's upper body toward your body. Lastly you need to ensure the Infant Insert is deep in the pocket of the carrier: Leave one hand inside the Infant Insert and hold the insert while pulling gently on the top edge of the carrier upward with the other hand.

    7. Tighten the shoulder straps so that it is comfortable for you and your baby by pulling the webbing towards your baby.

    8. The baby's position should be checked regularly to make sure that the baby is properly seated in the carrier, centered with head upright and not slumping downward or to the side. You should be able to kiss the top of your baby's head (and we recommend doing this often).

TO REMOVE YOUR CHILD FROM THE FRONT CARRY POSITION

    1. Loosen the shoulder straps slightly (this raises the chest strap up and makes it easier to unbuckle).

    2. While securely holding your baby with one hand, reach back with the other hand and unbuckle the chest strap.

    3. Hold your child as you remove each shoulder strap.

    4. With both hands, remove your child in the Infant Insert and lay your baby on a soft surface. Always remove your baby from the carrier before unbuckling the waist strap. If your baby is sleeping s/he can remain sleeping in this position, but ensure you have placed your baby in a safe place without risk of falling if your baby rolls.
